Global Intranet
The board at The Economist Group initiated a project to implement a group wide intranet to support the day to day work of over 1,000 employees. There was a requirement to build collaboration and business opportunity internally in a way that broke through the established barriers between the groups diverse, global business units.
Originally designed and developed by members of the Online Solutions team in association with Blue Sky Communications in 2001, The Economist Group approached Online Solutions in 2008 with a view to redesigning their Intranet. It was felt that the existing intranet was in need of a restructure to more accurately facilitate the needs of the ongoing evolving nature of the business as well a fresh more up-to-date look and feel.
The initial phase of the project was to create a set of online wireframes for the new intranet based on the results of a previously undertaken Information Architecture exercise. Once the structure was firmly established and the required functionality and content management system requirements agreed, the Online Solutions design and development team proceeded to create a new global intranet system that has since been deployed throughout The Economist Group in Europe, the USA and Asia. Proving a huge success for the business, the intranet continues to be supported by the Online Solutions development team who provided ongoing maintenance and development services for the group.
