Bringing new energy to an online community

Utilising the latest responsive animation techniques to bring the Student Art Pass website content to life

Project details
& statistics

The Student Art Pass from the Art Fund opens up a world of art, opportunities and community providing students with access to free or reduced entry to hundreds of museums and galleries, and 50% of major exhibitions. After the first year of its initial launch as a product in 2017, Art Fund were looking for a permanent online home for the Student Art pass where it could talk to and provide dedicated content for a younger audience without the constraints of the larger Art Fund brand.

Working alongside design agency Mullen Lowe Group UK and the Art Fund, the OS team were tasked with developing an energetic, fully responsive website that embodied the energy of the Student pass community, bringing to life the world of creativity that it unlocks. Our production and development team set about recreating the visual experience online, balancing the complexity of the proposed design concepts and dynamic in-page animations with real world technical constraints and performance optimisation to ensure minimal loss of visual design integrity in the resulting website.

The website utilises the latest Single Page App (SPA) technology to provide rapid content load times and a slick user experience coupled with technically efficient rendering of complex data queries from multiple sources and in-page reactive animations.

As the system was specifically developed to be 100% API centric, the SAP website integrates seamlessly with several third-party systems to provide the optimum specialised service for a given task. For instance the website integrates with a Microsoft Dynamics 365 (the Art Fund’s CRM system) which manages the membership aspect of the site including customer and university data, pricing, renewal management etc. Sage Pay is also fully integrated into the site to provide ecommerce services and all transactional communications (eg purchase receipts, forgotten password emails, opportunity confirmations) are delivered through the omnichannel marketing automation platform - DotDigital. Additionally, as part of the Student Art Pass programme, Art Fund have pledged to provide 15,000 sector related opportunities for students. By integrating TypeForm into the solution, the website is able to incorporate numerous online tools to help facilitate this pledge including competitions, surveys, forms and quizzes.

After launch the Student Art Pass website sold over 20,000 Student Art Passes in the first 3 months, an increase of 23% year on year. The Student Art Pass website also went on to win a prestigious Drum Design Award in 2020.
