The brief

To create a modern and living website that embodies the Foundation’s brand and showcases the wealth and breadth of the organisation’s digital content

Project details

Established in 1977, the Henry Moore Foundation was founded by the artist and his family to encourage public appreciation of the visual arts. With venues in Leeds and Hertfordshire, an extensive artwork and archive collection and an active grants programme, the Henry Moore Foundation promotes the visual arts and sculpture in the UK and Internationally whilst preserving the legacy of Moore himself.

Off the back of an extensive technical research and development programme with representatives from some of UK’s leading museums and galleries for Art Fund’s prototype ticketing system, Art Tickets, the OS team were subsequently commissioned by the Foundation to re-architecture, design and develop a new Henry Moore Foundation website. Specifically, the project brief outlined a requirement to design a web presence that would inspire the study of sculpture at all levels, provoke thoughts and invite visitors to participate in the Foundation’s activities and exhibition programme.

Online Solutions oversaw our entire website redesign project, which necessitated working with many individuals across a number of teams. Throughout the whole process they were able to effectively manage the expectations and at times competing ideas coming their way, while keeping everyone happy and on board with the project - a feat in itself! We've benefited dramatically from their work and insight, and would wholeheartedly recommend them.

The website was designed to be fully responsive with adaptive elements specifically for tablet and mobile devices and was built on the Laravel framework, seamlessly integrating with a variety of external third-party software solutions. Specifically, the integration with TMS collection management software and the eMuseum web interface into both the website and content management system provides visitors with the ability to browse the full catalogue raisonné of Henry Moore sculptures and delve into a world of detailed information and imagery pertaining to related artworks, concept sketches and maquettes, artist notebooks, in-depth articles, exhibitions and research. The website also features a full ecommerce shop with membership and online donation capabilities, a grant application management system and a dynamic bespoke events booking facility.

Since launch, the OS team continue to work with the Henry Moore Foundation providing design and development services to support their continuous improvements programme with regular system updates and new supplementary functionality.

System integration

By integrating a number of customised third party applications, the website was specifically designed to provide optimum functionality to visitors utilising a wide variety of mediums. From visually engaging graphical interfaces and extensive online artwork and research catalogues to event management facilities and a secure ecommerce gift shop, the website incorporates the best of breeds of technology to fully represent the Foundation in the online arena

Events booking facilities

The Content Management System (CMS) also offers the ability to generate fully customisable dynamic forms to capture visitor data and provide the ability to book and pay for numerous events and exhibitions
